Project | Prioritizing sites for toxic soil remediation in Pierce County, WA

The historic Asarco smelter in Tacoma contaminated over 1,000 square miles of soils in the Puget Sound region. For this analysis, I used soil sample data from the Washington state Department of Ecology, Census demographic data, and ArcGIS Spatial Analyst tools to determine the spatial distribution of arsenic and lead soil concentrations in relation to areas with the highest density of children under 10 years of age.
